A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Sanguine, a cross throughout Argent entwined in pale with a snake of the like.
The shield is in the colors of the Medical Department. The cross and the serpent, taken from the staff of Aesculapius, god of medicine, symbolize the medical nature of the Battalion.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 25 September 1941.
